The Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust team won first place at the 2025 Uganda Wildlife Ranger Challenge!

Congratulations to the Kidepo Valley National Park team for winning for Ranger Category!

Running in the Sponsors, Partners and Supporters category at the race in Murchison Falls National Park, the VSPT team competed alongside 14 teams including wildlife rangers, safari companies, conservation organisations, media and others. The race is over 21 km along the Nile delta, with each runner carrying a 22kg backpack.

The Volcanoes Safaris team included Head Guide Francis Kiwanuka, Kyambura Lodge Manager Isaiah Businge and wildlife guides Saidi Kakuru, Ivan Wamala and Andrew Kato, raced alongside highly distinguished fellow runners including James Musinguzi, Executive Director of Uganda Wildlife Authority and Lisa Chesney MBE, British High Commissioner to Uganda.

Chimpanzee Tracking

Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor is nothing short of exhilarating. The chimps effortlessly cross and scamper through the trees above the gorge, and visitors on the other hand must cross the river using natural bridges in order to keep up with the chimps. So although the walk usually lasts only 2–3 hours, descending the steep gorge and crossing the log bridges over the river requires some agility and fitness.

Chimpanzee tracking is also available in nearby Kalinzu, a forest reserve 30 minutes drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge where there is a community of about 40 habituated chimpanzees.
